Solar Reign Update 17: More Ships to Fly, Elections, and More!
Solar Reign » Devlog
I appreciate the patience of those who have been following this project. This update was long and arduous but I believe It is very important in that it continues guiding the game in the direction I initially wanted. Thank you, I look forward to seeing you in the next update!
Major Updates:
- Added a shipyard which you can purchase different ships to fly. The player can currently purchase and pilot the base Fighter, a MKII Fighter/Heavy Fighter, a Bomber, and a Cruiser.
- Finally updated the turret graphic on larger ships.
- Added the “Dreadnought” class of ship. Significantly larger and stronger than the cruiser, at the sacrifice of speed and maneuverability. Additionally, this is the first class of ships to include drones. These are tiny autonomous ships that act as a fighter but are significantly weaker.
- Elections have been added. If you are in the Zero-G Corp. you can purchase influence. If you are in the GSF, you must earn it through winning combat. The influence you gain can be used to purchase votes in the elections. If you win, you can then choose whether to go to war or declare peace with other factions. There is an option to also vote for other members of the faction if you want someone else to lead. The members of your factions have a leadership trait that can affect the faction if they are elected. There are currently 3 traits that are self-explanatory. Warmongers are more likely to go to war and less likely to make allies. Pacifists are more likely to get allies and less likely to go to war. Economists’ boosts yield from stations and are to a lesser extent also more likely to gain allies. These are subject to change over time.
Minor Updates:
- Ledger bug fixed where the ledger would only show a limited number of settlements info.
- Added a QoL fix to the building UI. Now there are labels for the buildings you are upgrading, which probably should’ve been there in the first place. Additionally, tooltips have been added to make it clear what these buildings do.
- Attempted to work in a fix for tooltips staying if the menu which they originated from suddenly closed. Tests implemented have shown that it worked.
- Fixed a bug causing nameplates for settlements to not be colored correctly. When a settlement was a part of your faction, it did not color it blue. I am considering making it a separate color such as yellow or green to make it stand out from allies.
- Civilian Trader Ships are now colored based on what faction they belong to.
